What: Designed for girls in grades 4 through 8 who want to develop their basketball skills in a fun and supportive environment. This recreational league focuses on skill development, teamwork, and fostering a love for the game. There are no tryouts, and teams are balanced to ensure an enjoyable experience for all players.
This league is perfect for athletes looking to improve their skills and develop enjoyment for the game. All travel players must also register for the in-town league to ensure adequate numbers to run the league.
Our program prioritizes participation, with players receiving roughly equal playing time during the regular season. While playing time is not guaranteed during the playoffs, all players will still see at least 10 minutes of court time in every playoff game.
For players seeking more advanced competition, check out the Waltham Girls Youth Basketball Travel Program.
PRACTICES & SEASON STRUCTURE
The Waltham In-Town League kicks off with three weeks of Saturday morning practices, starting in December. After these initial practice sessions, teams will transition to Saturday games, which will run through February. During the season, we offer skills clinics that players in Grades 4-8 can attend. This schedule varies per season.
We ask that players attend practices and games regularly, as this helps build team chemistry and ensures that everyone can develop their skills consistently.
PLAYING TIME
In the Waltham In-Town League, we emphasize participation, and all players will have the opportunity to play in each game. During the regular season, every player will receive roughly equal playing time, allowing them to develop their skills in a real-game setting.
While playing time during the playoffs may not be evenly distributed, all players will still receive at least 10 minutes on the court in each playoff game.
This program is all about learning, fun, and improving as a team! If you have any concerns about playing time, please feel free to discuss them with the coach or league director.
